5:13: Report on Rituals

Refer to the Lambda
Sigma Handbook, Section IV,
before completing this form. This report should be completed by the
Membership Selection Chair and the President, with assistance from a Junior
Advisor. The guidelines listed in Section IV must be
followed, and this report must be submitted before the selection process
begins. This report is due by January 31.
Gifts should be done in the correct
order as listed below.
I. GIFT OF
ACQUAINTANCE
What method is used to
compile a list of nominees?
What minimum grade
average is required for eligiblity? (This minimum
must rank within the highest 35% of the first-year class.)
List the composition of
the Selection Committee. (Include only titles like president, secretary,
etc.) Refer to the Handbook for required committee makeup.
How will the Selection
Committee make the selection? (Example: through interviews, reviewing
applications and nominations, etc.) Explain in detail and include your chapter's
application and any other forms used.
What vote by the
Selection Board is required for selection? (Example: two-thirds, majority,
etc.)
Size of the
institution?
Size of current first-year class?
How many first-year
students are academically eligible for membership?
How many
applications were received last year?
How many members
were selected last year?
II. GIFT OF COLORS
How will the new
members be notified of their selection? Please include any ceremonies you
will use.
III. GIFT OF CHOICE
Explain the procedure
that will be used to secure the written statement of the new members acceptance or rejection of the offer of
membership. Membership fees should be collected at this time.
IV. GIFT OF
KNOWLEDGE
Explain how new
members will be informed of the history and purposes of Lambda Sigma.
V. GIFT OF
FELLOWSHIP
The National Ritual
must be used by all chapters. Does your chapter have a copy of the ritual? CLICK HERE TO VIEW RITUALS
Does your chapter have
a banquet with the initiation ceremony?
If not, how is the
ritual implemented?
NOTE: No student may be
initiated who has not paid membership fees prior to the ceremony. Is that
clearly included in your chapter's procedures?
Please list any ideas
your chapter uses during the ceremony to make it more effective. (Example:
tables are arranged in a diamond shape at banquet; parents invited, etc.)
Is anyone other than
Lambda Sigma members, initiates, advisors invited to the ceremony? Please
list other guests.
Other than the Gift of
Fellowship, does your chapter plan to make any changes in the way the
rituals above will be conducted. Please explain.
Specify all questions
and/or judging scales pertaining to leadership that you use in your
selection process. (They are located
in the Judging Leadership in the Lambda Sigma Selection Process on the
Lambda Sigma website.)
